IHD Awarded Second Five-Year, $5M Cooperative Agreement to Provide Training and Technical Support to Tribal VR Projects Nationwide

For the last six years, the American Indian Vocational Rehabilitation Training and Technical Assistance Center (AIVRTTAC) has played a vital role in supporting vocational rehabilitation personnel who help American Indians with disabilities obtain gainful and fulfilling employment. Now, thanks to another five-million-dollar, five-year cooperative agreement awarded by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, this important work can continue. Iowa's Pipeline Programs Promote Self-Advocacy, STEM and More

Maryland's UCEDD Faculty Takes on Social Inclusion as Social Justice

Mirian Ofonedu, PhD, LCSW-C, is the Director of Training at the Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities at Kennedy Krieger Institute, Maryland's one and only UCEDD. Dr. Ofonedu coordinated efforts to launch the Diverse, Racial, Ethnic and Multicultural Special Interest Group (DREAM-SIG) of the American Psychological Association (APA), Society for Child and Family Policy and Practice (Division 37).

HDI Launches Storytelling Website

The University of Kentucky Human Development Institute Digital Storytelling Initiative highlights the stories and lived experiences of people with disabilities. Interviews address multiple life experience living and working in the community. Most recently, the Vaccine Confidence and Access for People for People with Disabilities Initiative interviewed with people with disabilities about their vaccine experience and the importance of keeping our communities healthy.

Creating a Map to Navigate Missouri's Abuse and Neglect Investigations System

UMKC Institute for Human Development has partnered with the Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council to develop the Missouri Adult Abuse & Neglect Investigations System interactive Map. The map has multiples uses, including Missouri reporting agencies to improve the abuse reporting system, and for training and educational purposes.

The Ohio State University Nisonger Center received a $2.8 million CDC grant to help improve lives of adults with disabilities in Ohio

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has awarded a $2.8 million, 5-year grant to Ohio State's Nisonger Center, which is part of the Wexner Medical Center, College of Medicine, Office of Health Sciences and Neurological Institute. This funding will support efforts to improve the health of adults with mobility limitations as well as adults with intellectual disabilities in Ohio.

The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center's (TN IDDRC, UCEDD, LEND) Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) is collaborating with Oregon State University's STEM Research Center and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) to support the Modeling Zoos and Aquariums as Inclusive Communities of Science (MoZAICS) project.

Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University Announces a New Funded Grant

The "I Generate Rural Opportunities for Work" (iGROW) Project is a one-year pre-employment and leadership-training program for students with disabilities who are currently enrolled in middle school and high school (ages 14-22). The purpose of the program is to provide a training environment to support students with disabilities to gain the necessary skills and experiences in work readiness in order to successfully transition into postsecondary education and/or competitive integrated employment.

MMI Contributes to Study on Whole Genome Sequencing

For nearly three years, Kristen Fishler, a genetic counselor at the Munroe-Meyer Institute Department of Genetics, and her colleagues at UNMC and MMI, have been working with sites across the country to document the impact of whole-genome sequencing (WGS) as a diagnostic tool for acutely ill infants with a suspected genetic disease.

Coming Soon! AUCD Launches a New Podcast

We are proud to present AUCD's new podcast-- AUCD Network Narratives: Real Stories from Our Members. The podcast shares real stories from network members who are working to change systems and structures that impact people with disabilities. This first season focuses on network members promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion and reducing disparities for Black and brown disabled people. Be on the look in the next couple of weeks when our first episode will air.
