The Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AIDD) has funded the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services (NASDDDS) in partnership with UMKC Institute for Human Development (MO UCEDD), National Association of Councils for Developmental Disabilities (NACDD), and Human Resource Services Institute (HSRI) to host a five year Community of Practice. The purpose of the grant is to identify and implement policies and practices that will serve as a national framework for states to use to support families with members with I/DD across the lifespan.

A Community of Practices is a learning environment for an intensive exploration into current policy, practices, trends and barriers.  Specifically for this project, five states will be the focus of the Community of Practice with the learning being shared with the entire nation.  In addition to these five states, Missouri will collaborate as the demonstration state for the project. Each state will form a team that is facilitated jointly by the state I/DD service system office and the state Council on Developmental Disabilities with additional membership from self-advocacy and family organizations, university, education, aging and other organizations interested in this topic.

The five states selected to form the Community of Practice are:

  • Connecticut
  • District of Columbia
  • Oklahoma
  • Tennessee
  • Washington

This Community of Practice is designed to include ideas, innovations and recommendations not only from the states identified but from the broader community. Below are just a few of the proposed broader learning exchange opportunities that we hope you will participate in:
