Andrew J. Imparato Named to Maryland Commission for Effective Community Inclusion of Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
The Commission was created by the Governor on September 17, 2013, in part as a response to the circumstances surrounding the death of Frederick County resident Ethan Saylor, an individual with Down syndrome. The Commission is required to submit an initial progress report by January 9, 2014, which would have been Mr. Saylor's 27th birthday. Read more...

The AUCD Emerging Leader Scholarship Fund
The Emerging Leader Scholarship Fund was established by the AUCD Board of Directors in 2013 with the goal of providing financial assistance to emerging Network leaders: self-advocates, family members, trainees, and young professionals; to attend the AUCD Conference. The Fund was created in conjunction with the retirement of Executive Director George S. Jesien, PhD, to honor his commitment to increasing leadership in the disability field. Read more...

The Path To Independence Project is a collaborative effort of UNR's Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities (NCED), the University of Nevada Reno Extended Studies Department, the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR), and Sierra Regional Center (SRC). Emerging Leaders Players (ELP) is the first fully inclusive West Coast-based theater group for youth and adolescents (ages 13-30) with and without disabilities that live in and nearby Portland, Oregon. ELP is a part of a larger group of transition services offered through the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) located within the Institute on Development & Disability (IDD) at Oregon Health and Science University. Hawaii Aquaponics Workforce Development: Growing Diversity in Hiring and Employment (HI UCEDD)
The Center on Disability at the University of Hawaii is supporting Hawaii's revitalization investment plan to support the growing diverse small farm movement, and to fulfill the federal mandate to include disability in diversity hiring and employment. The Hawaii Aquaponics Workforce Development Project on Maui (referred to UH AQ) is model pilot training adults with mental illness and other disabilities including intellectual and developmental disabilities in the sustainable food production method of aquaponics - growing fish and plants together in a single system without soil using recirculating water.
