MIND Institute Research Named Among TIME Magazine's "Top 10 Medical Breakthroughs" for 2012
Autism research by Sally Rogers, UC Davis Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, has been named number five among the Top 10 Medical Breakthroughs of 2012 by TIME magazine. Dr. Rogers is affiliated with the UC Davis MIND Institute and UCEDD. The acknowledgement is for research published in October in the Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, which found that Rogers' Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) intervention is effective for improving cognition and language skills among very young children with autism, that it normalizes their brain activity, decreases their autism symptoms and improves their social skills.
MIND Institute Faculty Edit Book Entitled "Autism and Other Neurodevelopmental Disorders"
The accelerating advancement in research in neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, learning disorders, and more, has enormous implications for clinical practice. The new book, "Autism and Other Neurodevelopmental Disorders," provides clinicians with up-to-date information on the impact these advances have on the standard of care in the range of disorders commonly encountered by both primary and subspecialist physicians. The book is edited by Robin L. Hansen, MD, Director of the UCEDD at the UC Davis MIND Institute, and Sally J. Rogers, PhD, also affiliated with the UC Davis MIND Institute and UCEDD. The authors explain the latest findings from the biological, behavioral, and clinical sciences in ways that are accessible to clinicians and helpful to patients and their families.
