The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP, PA LEND) Faculty Recognized by PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation
November 8, 2012
The CHOP Career Path Program, created by CHOP LEND in 2007, was recently honored by the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, which named CHOP an “Exemplary Employer” as a result of this program developed and directed by the LEND Director of Community Outreach, Symme Trachtenberg, M.S.W., LSW.
The Career Path team includes a vocational support coordinator, job coach and social worker (a LEND graduate). It evaluates youth 17 to 22 with disabilities and/or chronic illness, offers work trials with various departments at CHOP, and helps them find employment within the hospital or in the community. Career Path aims to assist young adults with making the transition from adolescence and school to adulthood and work, with an emphasis on vocational training and independent living skills. Each year, the Career Path internship helps several young adults develop their capacities for meaningful careers. Seventeen Career Path graduates are current employees at CHOP.
