Prevention and Public Health Fund

The Affordable Care Act created the Prevention and Public Health (PPH) Fund, the first mandatory funding stream to promote wellness, prevent disease, and protect against public health emergencies. A mandatory funding stream eliminates harmful fluctuations that make it difficult to maintain public health programs from year to year. In 2011, $750 million was made available and used for four (4) main purposes: community prevention programs, clinical prevention and awareness initiatives, public health infrastructure and training at the local and state levels, and research and tracking.
