New Simplified Standards for Electronic Exchange of Information
On January 2, 2013, the ACA will implement new administrative simplification standards for the electronic exchange of information. The new provisions require the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to adopt national standards for electronic health care transactions and national identifiers for providers, health plans, and employers. These new standards aim to simplify and reduce the paperwork and clerical burden on not only patients, but also providers and insurers.
