Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP)

Between now and 2014, the Affordable Care Act ensures that individuals with pre-existing conditions are not discriminated against or left uninsured. If you are a U.S. Citizen or a legal resident of the U.S. who has been denied health coverage by a private insurance company solely because of a pre-existing condition and have been uninsured for at least 6 months, you are eligible to apply for health coverage through a PCIP (eligibility is not determined by income).   PCIPs, which can be administered by the state or the federal government, cover a broad range of health benefits including primary and specialty care, hospital care, and prescription drugs and the services are available even to treat pre-existing conditions.
