The South Carolina Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities program (SC LEND) was established in 2011 and is off to a great start in raising awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorders. Employees at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), the lead site for SC LEND, were asked to wear blue for World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, and one tower of MUSC's hospital was lit up blue. MUSC's autism research team, which includes several LEND faculty and trainees, hosted a Light it Up Blue Bash for more than 80 faculty, trainees, and community members on the evening of April 2, complete with blue drinks, blue glow necklaces, and plenty of great food and music. In other efforts, SC LEND trainees have worked together this year to produce an on-line CME event aimed at helping medical professionals navigate the special education system.
