Dr. Kerim Munir (MA ICI UCEDD/LEND) Receives 2011 AACAP George Tarjan Award

Dr. Kerim Munir

The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) George Tarjan Award for Contributions in Developmental Disabilities recognizes a child and adolescent psychiatrist and AACAP member who made significant contributions in a lifetime career or single seminal work to the understanding or care of those with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.

Dr. Kerim M. Munir, MD, MPH, DSc, is Director of Psychiatry at the Institute for Community Inclusion UCEDD and Director of Psychiatry for the ICI/LEND program in the Division of Developmental Medicine and Associate Professor in Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at the Children's Hospital Boston. He serves as the Principal Investigator of the Fogarty International Center and NIMH funded research training program at the CHB. He completed his medical education at the University College London and training in psychiatry and child psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital. He holds a Doctorate in Science in Psychiatric Epidemiology and Maternal and Child Health from the Harvard School of public Health. He is the recipient of the Klaus Peter Award in International Medical Education at Harvard Medical School and International Award by the Turkish Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Association for contribution to research capacity in child mental health and developmental disabilities. He is also the principal author of the National Mental Health Policy and recipient of a Distinguished Physician of the Year Award by the Ministry of Health, Turkey.

Dr. Munir accepted his award at the annual AACAP meeting in Toronto and delivered an acceptance lecture on the Legacy of Human Research Involving Children and Adolescents with Intellectual Disabilities.
