Think College, at the Institute for Community Inclusion (ICI) at the University of Massachusetts Boston, with funding from the Administration on Developmental Disabilities, conducts a comprehensive national training initiative designed to increase the participation of individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities in postsecondary education.

Purpose

The emphasis of this competition is to increase opportunities for postsecondary education for students with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (IDD) within the UCEDD network, in partnership with their respective DD Councils and other key state partners, such as Boards of Higher Education, institutions of higher education, self-advocacy groups, and youth leadership programs.

Priority Area

The project priority area is state level collaborative planning resulting in an action plan to increase opportunities for inclusive postsecondary education for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (e.g., access to typical college courses with peers without disabilities, access to all college community activities).

Goal

The overarching goal is a plan that will result in measurable increases in participation of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in inclusive postsecondary education, particularly in those states where there are little or no opportunities for students with IDD to attend college.

Notes

The planning can address expanding existing local efforts statewide as well as beginning efforts in states where there is currently no or minimal activity. This competition will not support projects that propose to develop a separate or segregated postsecondary education program only for students with intellectual disabilities.

Eligibility

The lead applicant must be a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) who has not received a Think College strategic planning grant in the past.

Awards

Think College will award up to four mini-grants of $15,000 each for an 11-month period for UCEDDs to support statewide strategic planning to implement an inclusive postsecondary initiative statewide, with consideration to geographic diversity across the United States.
The indirect rate is capped at 8%
The anticipated project start date is November 1, 2011.
