Direct Service Demonstration Project: Ready, Set, Go!

Ready, Set, Go! - A six month direct service demonstration project for people with disabilities who are interested in national service. Three months of life skill workshops and three months at an AMERICORPS site with a trained mentor on a one-to-one basis.
Participants received a stipend and transportation costs were provided.

Graduated seven adults with disabilities .
Created and established successful mentor component

Activities & programs

Day of Service (Participants read to children who were homeless. Twenty two children received a Cat in the Hat book and healthy snacks.)
Created Advisory Board (comprised of participants)
Participated in statewide training on disabilities for AMERICORPS supervisors
Volunteers received free mentor training
Participants received free mentor training
Mid-term party and graduation

Foundation built for future funding opportunities

Recently applied for an AMERICORPS grant through the Corporation for Community Service along with two other states: Florida and California who received NSIP grants. Grant Awarded.
