AMCHP Peer-to-Peer Exchange in Utah

The Association of Maternal Child Health Programs (AMCHP) recently held a Peer-to-Peer Exchange in Salt Lake City, Utah, which addressed the topic of medical home for children and youth with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities (ASD/DD). The exchange was led by peer leader, Utah, and included representatives from the Utah Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program that shared lessons learned and best practices in medical home.

AMCHP sponsored State Implementation Grantees for Improving Services for Children and Youth with ASD/DD from AK, IL, ME, MO, NJ, NM, NY, RI and WI to participate. The exchange convened a half-day meeting for state implementation grantees, and a full-day meeting with more than 100 LEND and public health leaders from around the state of Utah. Objectives of the exchange included creating a vision of medical home, identifying tools, methods and key change concepts that can be applied to create medical home, and recognizing strategies to implement a family-centered approach for children with ASD/DD.
