Kennedy Krieger Institute's Linda Schuberth Lectureship Series

The Linda Schuberth lectureship series was created to honor Schuberth's excellence in clinical practice, education, and promotion of evidence-based practice at Kennedy Krieger Institute. Linda was a master clinician who shaped the role of occupational therapy on the inpatient and outpatient feeding teams, by expertly assessing feeding difficulties in children by incorporating their family's cultural, social, and behavioral routines. Linda retired last year after 22 years of service.
The inaugural Linda Schuberth Lectureship brought together occupational therapists and other clinicians within the larger community to thank her for her invaluable contributions to the field of occupational therapy, Kennedy Krieger, and the Institute's community at large.
The event kicked off with a day-long program of activities with the first lecturer, Jane Case-Smith EdD, OTR/L, FAOTA. Dr. Case-Smith toured Kennedy Krieger's various occupational therapy departments where she shared her knowledge with many of the staff. She also had the opportunity to learn more about occupational therapy research projects at the Institute when presenters shared a short talk about their projects at Kennedy Krieger, which included:

- Functional Electrical Stimulation and Spinal Cord Injury [Kim Obst MS, OTR/
- Together Time: Building Healthy Relationships Through Everyday Activities [Jordan Peirce, OTD, OTR/L

- Quality of Life Among Families with a Child with an Autism Spectrum Disorder: a Population-Based Study [Rondalyn Whitney, PhD, OT/L]
- Developing Outcomes to Evaluate Interventions [Kathy Zackowski, PhD, OTR/L]
- The Effects of Multisensory Environments on Stereotypies in Children with Autism [Linda Brandenburg].
The day ended with a lecture by Dr. Case-Smith, attended by 169 individuals from the Kennedy Krieger community. The event was introduced by a video from AOTA president Florence Clark PhD, OTR, FAOTA, who acknowledged Linda and the occupational therapists at Kennedy Krieger for exemplifying occupational therapy as a "powerful, widely-recognized, science-driven, and evidence-based profession with a globally-connected and diverse workforce, meeting society's occupational needs."
Dr. Case-Smith's lecture focused on questions that are critical to translational research in the field of occupational therapy. She described her research and remarkable outcomes in constraint induced therapy.
Dr. Carolyn Baum PhD, OTR/L FAOTA, professor of occupational therapy and neurology; Elias Michael Director, Program in occupational therapy at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, and former president of the American Occupational Therapy Association will be the honorary lecturer next year.
