Katie Beerman And Allie Flynn, OH LEND, Tied For First Place In The Ohio Speech Language Hearing Association Student Poster Contest

Two LEND trainees at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati, Katie Beerman and Allie Flynn, tied for first place in the Ohio Speech Language Hearing Association (OSLHA) Student Poster Contest on 3/19/2011 at the 2011 OSLHA Convention held in Columbus. There were 47 posters representing students in Undergraduate Honors, Master's and Doctoral programs across the state. Both Katie and Allie received 49 out of 50 possible points (judged by University Faculty members from across the state).

"Comparison of the Familial Impact Between Different Types of Feeding and Swallowing Disorders"
This poster describes the feeding and swallowing disorders present in children evaluated at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. It reviews the familial impact and levels of parental stress associated with the disorders as indicated by the Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing Disorders Family Impact Scale-Revised and the Parent-Stress Index.

"Does Vowel Distortion Decrease with Age in Suspected Childhood Apraxia of Speech"
For children with childhood apraxia of speech, making simple speech sounds is extremely difficult, vowel errors are described as one of the presenting characteristics of this diagnosis. This study examines the number of vowel errors in children of increasing age, and discusses the implications.
