Bridget Brown awarded 2009 Leadership in Advocacy Award

Bridget Brown of Butterflies for Change received the 2009 Leadership in Advocacy Award at the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) Annual Meeting and Conference.

The award is presented to an outstanding individual or family member who has exhibited exceptional leadership and self-advocacy skills in the area of developmental disabilities.

A young woman with Down syndrome, Bridget founded her own advocacy organization (www.butterfliesforchange.org) and uses her personal experience as a self-advocate to train other individuals with disabilities in person-centered planning, transition planning, and self-advocacy. She has also presented at various conferences, encouraging people with disabilities to "dwell in the possibilities."
