APHA Disbility Section - Trainee Membership

September 16, 2008

Dear Trainee,

As many of you know, many organizations provide a special reduced rate for trainees and students to join their ranks. One of the best deals around is the opportunity to join the American Public Health Association (APHA) Disability Section at the very reduced price of $60. This is a saving of $135 over regular membership! Membership provides you access and the opportunity to participate in the largest public health association in the world, and becoming a Disability Section member offers great opportunities for students interested in health promotion and access to health care among populations with disabilities. These opportunities include networking with APHA Disability Section members, opportunities to submit research for presentation at their annual meeting, and receiving newsletters sharing information about Section activities. In short, membership provides you access to information and a network that can potentially influence and benefit your careers.

Student members of APHA are also members of the APHA Student Assembly, and receive many benefits from this membership, including access to the APHA Career Mart services, discounted attendance fees for the national APHA meeting, optional discounted journal subscriptions, and email updates on APHA legislative and policy priorities. To join APHA and the Disability Section go to www.apha.org and click on the Membership button. Be sure to indicate that you also want to join the Disability Section.

Also you should know that AUCD, in collaboration with the APHA Disability Section, is offering five $1,000 conference scholarship opportunities to attend the 2008 APHA Annual Meeting from October 25-29, 2008 in San Diego, CA. Scholarship application is open to AUCD Network (UCEDD, LEND, and IDDRC) Trainees as well as other graduate students involved in the work with CDC State Disability and Health grantees. All applicants are required to submit statement of interest, curriculum vitae, and letter of recommendation. Online Applications are due to AUCD by September 30, 2008 at 5PM EST. Contact Sue Lin with questions about the scholarships or the online application process.

We would love to have you join the American Public Health Association Disability Section!

Sincerely,

George Jesien, PhD, Executive Director, AUCD
