The purpose of this announcement is to fund a program which will operate a National Information and Resource Center on Physical Activity for Persons with Disabilities. The mission of the center will be to provide information, technical assistance, and consultation on physical activity, exercise, and health promotion practices targeting persons with disabilities, caregivers, media, researchers, disability service organizations, community groups, service providers, policymakers and the public. It includes addressing the prevention of secondary conditions in persons who have a disability by promoting and assessing the benefits of physical activity and exercise, reducing the risk for associated adverse health, promoting environmental and policy access to physical activity and recreational facilities and services. This program addresses the "Healthy People 2010" focus area(s) of Disability and Secondary Conditions and Physical Activity and Fitness.
