AUCD is honored and pleased to announce a new AUCD-NCBDDD Fellowship opportunity - The 2009 Pierre Decouflé Fellowship. The Pierre Decouflé Fellowship will be awarded to an individual seeking a career in the health research field who will benefit from an applied epidemiologic and developmental disabilities research learning experience with NCBDDD at CDC. The fellowship will also help to build CDC's long-term capacity to conduct applied studies in developmental disabilities. The fellowship is named for the late Dr. Pierre Decouflé.

About Dr. Pierre Decouflé

Dr. Decouflé began his career in the area of developmental disabilities research at CDC in 1988. Prior to that, he spent 5 years in research with the Agent Orange Program at the National Center for Environmental Health and 12 years in statistical, epidemiologic, and leadership positions at the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. During his long and prestigious career, Dr. Decouflé was also an associate professor of biostatistics and epidemiology at the University of Arizona, a role he never quite relinquished and which infused his professional life through teaching, mentoring, advising, and assisting others in their professional development. This fellowship honors that spirit of both caring and professionalism that Dr. Decouflé exemplified in his life and his work.

About the Fellowship

AUCD is seeking a faculty, staff, current trainee, or recent graduate (within the last four years) candidate from the UCEDD, LEND, and/or IDDRC network who is passionate about advancing research in the area of developmental disabilities. The fellow will devote his/her effort with the Developmental Disability Branch (DDB) within NCBDDD by working on the ongoing Metropolitan Atlanta Developmental Disabilities Surveillance Program (MADDSP) data base, and on special projects with data from the MADDSP as well as other data sets containing information on potential risk factors for developmental disabilities.

Location: NCBDDD Headquarters in Atlanta, GA

Qualifications: In the spirit of Dr. Decouflé, for whom this fellowship is named, the selected fellow is expected to exhibit a desire to continue research in the developmental disabilities (DDs) field. Applicants should have a doctoral degree in a public health, allied health, or education field. The fellow is expected to have a good knowledge of basic epidemiologic principles and methods and experience in data analysis. Familiarity with using personal computers is required. Microsoft Access, SPSS, and/or SAS programming and data analysis is desirable but not required. Minimum desired coursework includes basic statistics and research methods. Good writing skills are also desired.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000 range based on education and experience.
