November 14, 2007, Washington, DC: Marty Ford, of the Arc and UCP Disability Policy Collaboration received the 2007 Special Recognition Award today at the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) Annual Meeting and Conference.

The award is presented to an Association member or group—or to an individual, group, or organization outside of AUCD—to recognize outstanding contributions toward creating more inclusive communities for people with developmental disabilities and their families. The award is given in recognition of professional and personal efforts in a programmatic area that proactively supports people with developmental disabilities and their families at the local, state, or national level.

Ms. Ford has worked diligently behind the scenes for over two decades on national disability policy issues affecting people with disabilities. She has an understated, unassuming way of working to build consensus to ensure positive outcomes for people with intellectual, developmental and related disabilities. Her single goal is to ensure that public policies are responsive to the needs of people with disabilities especially those who have the most severe intellectual and developmental limitations.
