Laura Walker receives award

November 14, 2007, Washington, DC: Laura Walker, of the Institute for Human Development, University of Missouri at Kansas City received the 2007 Young Professional Award today at the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) Annual Meeting and Conference.

The award is presented to professionals in the disabilities field under the age of 40 years who have demonstrated dedication and commitment to people with developmental disabilities and their families through their work as a bridge between the academic sector and the community.

Ms. Walker is uniquely endowed with the talent to do exceptionally well academically and the compassion and dedication to utilize her academic knowledge and ability to work one on one with people with developmental disabilities and their families to help them solve problems and improve their lives…

We marvel at her ability to move comfortably between the theoretical concepts of academics and the actualization of helping to resolve issues of everyday life. Ms Walker is one of the exceptional few individuals that “gets it” both with her mind and with her heart.
