Kathryn (Katey) Burke, PhD, has been named the Associate Director of the Institute on Disabilities (IOD) at Temple University, College of Education and Human Development. Katey has been serving as a Senior Research Associate at the IOD and as an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning since August 2019. Katey will continue as an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning, in addition to her new role within the IOD.

Katey holds a PhD in Special Education with a Minor in Quantitative Research Design and Analysis from the University of Kansas. Her research focuses on promoting self-determination across the lifespan for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She is passionate about promoting inclusive education and supporting transition to postsecondary education and competitive integrated employment for young people with disabilities.

As Associate Director of the IOD, Katey will engage in two broad functions: (1) to assist the Executive Director in providing essential management and organization supports; and (2) to provide direction and support for the development of new funding and projects in the IOD that address federally mandated core functions. Additionally, Katey will increase her role in IOD’s growing health equity efforts and add re-development of the Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC) to her portfolio. Katey will continue to serve as the faculty advisor for Leadership & Career Studies (L&CS), an inclusive postsecondary program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and oversee day-to-day program operations during the search for a new program manager.
