Self-Advocates from WIHD interviewed by Fox5NY

April 1, 2022

Hear Our Voices at The Westchester Institute for Human Development (WIHD) has developed a Speaker’s Network of self-advocates who present at local, state, and national conferences.  The Speaker's Network offers individualized coaching to young adults with disabilities that want to share their story. The program empowers self-advocates to use their lived experiences to increase disability awareness. After completing the program, participants have a custom professional presentation that reflects their passion on a relevant topic. They have presented at the New York Medical College, the Touro College of Dentistry, Sarah Lawrence College and various statewide and national conferences.

On February 21st, several of the self-advocate speakers were interviewed by Sharon Crowley from Fox5NY about their participation in the Speaker's Network and the Hear Our Voices self-advocacy organization. The self-advocates spoke about how important it is to share their stories and experiences to increase Disability Awareness. Thanks to Brendan Klein, Claire Polin, Hannah Badain and Jesse Millman for sharing their successes. The piece aired on Monday, March 28th at 10pm. To watch the entire segment, please visit:
