AIR-P Scholars & Pilot and Feasibility Funding

The Autism Intervention Research Network on Physical Health (AIR-P) is currently in its second year of funding under the direction of UCLA and Project Investigator Dr. Alice Kuo!

AIR-P establishes and maintains an interdisciplinary, multicenter research network for scientific collaboration and infrastructure to increase the life expectancy and quality of life for autistic individuals. The mission of the AIR-P is to develop a robust research infrastructure that will foster measurable improvements in optimal physical health and well-being of autistic individuals and their families across the lifespan. 

The AIR-P supports innovative life course intervention research in six areas (Research Nodes):

  1. Primary Care Services and Quality
  2. Community-based Lifestyle Interventions
  3. Gender, Sexuality, and Reproductive Health
  4. Health Systems and Services
  5. Neurology
  6. Genetics

A few of our highlighted accomplishments and activities over the past 15 months include:

  • On October 8, AIR-P and the Organization for Autism Research (OAR) released RFP for Community Grant funding opportunity – accepting applications through April 2022
  • Our first AIR-P supplement was accepted by Pediatrics for publication in April 2022, during Autism Acceptance month
  • We have formed the following Subcommittees comprised of our Collaborating Research Entities (CREs):
    • Database: Provides feedback and guidance on the AIR-P Infrastructure for Collaborative Research (ICR) features and content to help shape its development
    • LEND Collaboration: Explores and develops collaborative research projects across CREs with LENDs
    • Supplement: Reviews proposals submitted for inclusion in the annual AIR-P supplement published in Pediatrics and other journals
    • Research Day Planning: Assists in the development of the agenda for biannual Research Days
    • Scholars Program: Reviews proposals submitted for the annual AIR-P Scholars Program & Pilot and Feasibility Funding programs and assists in further developing the programs to provide mentorship and funding to early career researchers
  • As a network, we have published over 30 peer-reviewed publications and over 50 dissemination activities*

*Includes conference presentations, workshops, webinars, community dissemination products, blogs, web postings, videos, infographics, lay summaries of research publications

WHAT’S NEXT:

The RFP for the third round of the AIR-P Scholars & Pilot and Feasibility Funding program will be released in February 2022. Early and mid-career autism researchers are invited to apply!

AIR-P will be hosting its first in-person Research Day on August 10, 2022 as part of the Autism CARES 2022 conference in Washington, DC. Stay tuned for more details!
