Show-Me College to Build Better Resources for College-Bound Students with IDD
More and more students with intellectual and developmental disabilities are going to college, thanks to legislation like the Individuals with Disabilities ACT of 1975 and the 2008 Higher Education Opportunity Act, which authorized the creation of comprehensive transition and postsecondary programs, and made financial aid available. The Show-Me College website is being developed to provide information and resources about college-going opportunities in Missouri for students, families, educators and counselors. Read more...
Growing Self-Advocacy in the Heartland
Since 2014, the Center Disabilities and Development (Iowa’s UCEDD) has actively participated in a collaborative known as the Heartland Self-Advocacy Resource Network (HSRN). The University of Kentucky Human Development Institute introduces a new project: Merge. The project will strengthen the existing training framework serving Kentuckians with co-occurring mental health, and intellectual and developmental disabilities (MHIDD). UNH IOD to Lead Development of New Children's Behavioral Health Resource Center

The NH Executive Council approved a $4.3 million, three-year contract to the University of New Hampshire Institute on Disability (IOD) to develop a new Children’s Behavioral Health Resource Center (CBHRC). Working in collaboration with other institutions, family groups, providers, and youth and families, the CBHRC will strengthen the network of behavioral health supports for children across NH. Sixty-one million adults in America live with a disability as of 2020, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Disabilities come in many forms and are essentially any condition, mentally or physically, affecting one’s ability to complete certain activities. $17 Million Grant Contracts in Autism and Behavior Awarded to Vanderbilt Kennedy Center's (TN IDDRC, UCEDD, LEND) TRIAD

The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center's (TN IDDRC, UCEDD, LEND) Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (VKC TRIAD) was awarded two grant contracts by Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) totaling $17 million. The grant contracts enable TRIAD to continue its 22-year partnership with TDOE by providing professional development and behavior intervention services across the state. Read more...

MI-LEND Team Develops Telehealth Module for National Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (NDD) Core Curriculum

In 2020, the Michigan Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (MI-LEND) was selected to be part of an AUCD and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) project focusing on telehealth. Vanderbilt Kennedy Center's (TN IDDRC, UCEDD, LEND) UCEDD Community Advisory Council Crafts and Approves VKC Equity Statement

During a 2020 Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (VKC) Community Advisory Council (CAC) meeting, VKC director Jeffrey Neul, M.D., Ph.D., asked the group to help come up with a plan to increase the diversity of the VKC in a manner to better reflect the communities it serves. The CAC moved Neul's charge forward and formed a Diversity Workgroup, chaired by CAC member Shana Crispin and comprised of CAC members (individuals with disabilities, parents, disability agencies) and VKC UCEDD leadership and staff. The Mark Chaffin Center for Healthy Development, a Georgia State University research center housed in the School of Public Health, has been chosen as the future home for the Georgia Association for Infant Mental Health (GA-AIMH).
