Human Development Center Supports Developmental Screening for Over 600 Young Children
Louisiana's UCEDD (HDC) seeks to build capacity and inspire change to improve the lived experience of individuals with disabilities and families. The state serves over 50,000 children (birth to 4-years) in publicly funded childcare. HDC's Early Childhood Initiatives staff build the capacity of current and future developmental surveillance, screening and referral efforts by early childhood care and education providers by collaborating with local Early Head Start programs through an Office of Head Start funded Community Childcare Partnership project. The University of Kentucky Human Development Institute Digital Storytelling Initiative highlights the stories and lived experiences of people with disabilities. Interviews address multiple life experience living and working in the community. Most recently, the Vaccine Confidence and Access for People for People with Disabilities Initiative interviewed with people with disabilities about their vaccine experience and the importance of keeping our communities healthy. Creating a Map to Navigate Missouri's Abuse and Neglect Investigations System
Missouri's adult abuse reporting system is complex and difficult to navigate for the mandated reportersand other professionals responsible for protecting individuals with disabilities. Current gaps in the system for reporting the abuse, neglect, or exploitation of individuals with disabilities creates barriers for securing their safety. Gaps in the system for reporting also make it difficult to ensure perpetrators of the abuse are held accountable for their actions. Read more...
The Ohio State University Nisonger Center received a $2.8 million CDC grant to help improve lives of adults with disabilities in Ohio
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has awarded a $2.8 million, 5-year grant to Ohio State's Nisonger Center, which is part of the Wexner Medical Center, College of Medicine, Office of Health Sciences and Neurological Institute. This funding will support efforts to improve the health of adults with mobility limitations as well as adults with intellectual disabilities in Ohio. Read more...

LEND Programs Collaborate for ECP Initiative
A new collaboration between Va-LEND, UCEDD, LEND-Pitt, and the University of ConnecticutUCEED & LEND will occur over the next 5-year grant cycle. The EarlyChildhood Partnerships (ECP) initiative, is an expansion of a pilotprogram that was conducted in previous years between LEND-Pitt and VA-LEND.In years one through five of the grant, trainees from each organization who are interested in early childhood will gather virtually. Getting and Keeping Iowa ON-TRAC for Healths
Last year, Iowa's UCEDD was awarded a community-based transition planning grant from the Administration for Community Living (ACL). This grant allowed the UCEDD to lead a partnership of service providers, representatives of state agencies and organizations, self-advocates, and youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to review and analyze health care transition services in Iowa, and to produce an action plan with ready-to-implement solutions. Public Health Researcher Receives Federal Funding to Help Address Mental Health Needs of Youth
The School of Public Health at Georgia State University has received a $624,000 federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, to implement a mental health awareness training program for adults who regularly interact with youth.
