Putting Faith to Work Highlighted on Disability Podcast

May 7, 2021

Putting Faith to Work (PFTW), an employment model created by four UCEDDS (TN, MN, KY, TX), was featured on a recent episode of the podcast Navigating Life as We Know It. Developed in 2014 through a Signature Employment Grant awarded by the Kessler Foundation, the PFTW model focuses on building the capacity of faith communities to support employment for members with disabilities.

The episode features the work of Beyond26, a nonprofit organization in Michigan, that has had great success connecting jobseekers with disabilities to meaningful employment by implementing the PFTW model. Also featured in the episode is Bill Gaventa, M.Div., retired director of Community and Congregational Supports at the Elizabeth M. Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities and chair of the National Collaborative on Disabilities, Religion, and Spirituality.

An overarching goal of the PFTW project was to develop an accessible, step-by-step manual that details key elements of the approach and that could be drawn upon by any of the more than 335,000 congregations nationwide.
