December 14, 2020

The Ohio State University Nisonger Center in collaboration with the University of Cincinnati Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) launched the Buckeye SCOPE: Supporting Children of the Opioid Epidemic ECHO series on August 7th, 2020. The series focused on building statewide provider capacity and confidence in applying evidence-based practices in screening, monitoring, and interdisciplinary support for children and families diagnosed with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS), Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS), or those suspected of being impacted by opioid use, trauma, or related exposure.

The ECHO network targeted early childhood education and care providers for this iteration of Buckeye SCOPE. Professionals who attended the series included developmental specialists, service coordinators/case managers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and paraprofessionals. The training wrapped up the final eighth session on November 13th which focused on current models of care and discussions on future systems-level strategies to support the NAS/NOWS population. The series consistently maintained an attendance of around 50 participants each session. A second iteration of Buckeye SCOPE: Supporting Children of the Opioid Epidemic ECHO network will launch in early summer of 2021.
