Iowa's UCEDD Welcomes Back Caitlin Owens

November 23, 2020

The Iowa UCEDD is excited to welcome Caitlin Owens back to the team as our new operations manager. A social worker by training, Owens has many years of experience working across the spectrum of mental health and disability services, from job coaching to behavioral intervention to systems change work. She is a former LEND trainee, a recipient of the Alfred Healy Leadership Award in Developmental Disabilities, a graduate of the AUCD Leadership Academy, and she previously worked at the Iowa UCEDD from 2015-2018.

During her previous tenure at the UCEDD, her primary roles were providing technical assistance in the form of staff support to the Iowa Olmstead Consumer Taskforce, and working on inclusive health and wellness activities through Iowa's disability and health grant. In her new role, Owens is looking forward to the opportunity to focus on the internal operations of the Iowa UCEDD, and the management of grants and projects.

In her time away from the UCEDD, Owens worked for the University of Iowa's student counseling center, providing direct therapeutic services including individual therapy, group work, and case management. She feels fortunate to love all aspects of social work, but her passion for disability rights has been the golden thread throughout her career. She is passionate about self-determination and social justice, and looks forward to helping the Iowa UCEDD continue its great work towards the vision of "a life in the community for everyone."

Outside of work Owens enjoys spending time outdoors with her energetic two-year-old and daydreaming about the pandemic being over.

Owens is looking forward to reconnecting with the AUCD network. Get in touch with her at [email protected].
