September 8, 2020

Stephan Viehweg, Associate Director of the Indiana LEND, has been awarded the Indiana University Bicentennial Medal. Viehweg was honored as "a cherished leader, groundbreaker, and champion of the progress of the IU Alumni Association, the IU School of Social Work, and [the] university, who has broadened the reach of Indiana University." The IU Bicentennial Medal recognizes distinguished and distinctive service in support of the mission of Indiana University. Nominated by their respective units of affiliation, recipients have broadened IU's reach to the state, nation, and world through personal, artistic, professional, or philanthropic efforts. The medals themselves are unique, made from materials salvaged from the old bells hung in the Student Building on the IU Bloomington campus, giving recipients a lasting piece of IU history. Recipients are considered a model for future students, faculty, alumni, and organizations to emulate.
