Chicagoland Disabled People of Color Coalition (Chicagoland DPOCC), Institute on Disability and Human Development, and Counting on Chicago Coalition came together to create a helpful tool for those who want to learn more about the 2020 U.S. Census and how it impacts disability communities throughout the country, including people with disabilities who live in Chicago.
Census 101: #IAmCounted is a packet where you can find out what the Census means, how the Census can help communities (including the disability community), ways to complete the Census, and how you can tell others about the Census through the #IAmCounted social media campaign.
EVERYONE counts in the U.S., and that includes people with disabilities. If people with disabilities do not take the Census, they will miss out on opportunities to get U.S. legislators closer to their communities and have the voice to tell U.S. legislators to make communities more accessible and inclusive to people with disabilities.
That is why it is important to learn about the Census, take the Census, and tell everyone about the Census! And Census 101:#IAmCounted can help you participate in this experience.
There are many accessible features that the packet provides, including a list of links you can go to for more Census information, large print for those who cannot see smaller fonts, and it's written in a way that more people could understand the information. The packet is available only in English at this time, but if you would like to get the packet in a different language, email us at [email protected] and we can do our best to get the packet translated to your preferred language.
