Join us in congratulating Susan Hetherington (twice!) on her retirement and her Community Health Improvement Award!

July 16, 2020

The Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities (Rochester, NY UCEDD) is excited to announce that our Director, Susan Hetherington, is the 2020 Awardee of the David Satcher Community Health Improvement Award for Senior Faculty. This award recognizes University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) faculty for significant contributions to the health of the community through research, teaching, practice, and/or service programs. Dr. Hetherington was recognized for her contributions to health equity and community inclusion for individuals with disabilities.

One of her longtime community partners expressed in his nomination letter, "Dr. Hetherington and I have shared many tables and community spaces over the years, and I can attest that she consistently brings the perspective of disabilities to broader conversations on diversity and equity. Through these expressions - but more importantly - through her work and actions, she has promoted inclusion for all through a community health lens." We are delighted that Dr. Hetherington is recognized for her work, and we are honored that she represents the Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities.

This is an excellent way to acknowledge Dr. Hetherington's move into retirement after more than 20 years with SCDD. Please join us in congratulating her as we honor her extensive contributions to the network and wish her well in her next steps!
