Seeking Volunteers / Nominations for a New Autism CARES Planning Committee

April 20, 2020

To follow up on the successful 2019 in-person Autism CARES grantee meeting, AUCD (in partnership with HRSA-MCHB and AMCHP) will be establishing a planning committee for one or more virtual activities to take place in 2020.

As in prior years, the planning committee will meet remotely (using a video conferencing platform) on a monthly basis to: (1) identify emerging or urgent issues facing the autism community that will give shape to the themes and structure of the network virtual activities offer (2) brainstorm and discuss opportunities for network grantees to share progress and connect with external resources in these priority areas; and (3) provide feedback on completed, planned, or in progress activities.  MCHB Project Officers will be invited to participate on these calls.  As needed, AUCD will engage members or solicit input between calls via group e-mails or communication with specific members based on their expertise, interests, etc.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for prospective planning committee member who will embody many aspects of diversity that are not only relevant to the work of training, research, and state systems change grantees but are essential to the broader mission of achieving positive life outcomes for people with autism and related disabilities and their families.   This includes but is not limited to racial, ethnic, cultural, and linguistic identities as well as disciplinary identities (including people with disabilities and family members).  While we continue to value the wisdom and expertise of established network leaders who have traditionally composed the Autism CARES planning committee, we are also hoping to leverage new ideas from emerging leaders involved with implementing the goals of the grantee network.

If you or someone from your program, project, or coalition are interested in participating in the planning committee once established, please e-mail Luis Valdez at lvaldez@aucd.org.
