The Developmental Disabilities (DD) Act makes sure that every state has these three organizations: UCEDDs, a DD Council, and a P&A (Protection and Advocacy). The DD Act is a federal law. Every state must follow this law but states can make their own laws to add to it.
Liz visited Alabama to see what these three groups look like in that state. Linda Russo is from the Alabama UCEDD which is at the Civitan International Research Center & Sparks Clinics. James Tucker is from the Alabama Disabilities Advocacies Program which is the P&A in Alabama.
UCEDDs are University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. The Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) supports and promotes 67 UCEDDs, in every state and territory. UCEDDs are funded by the Association of Community Living (ACL). We know this is a lot of information, so feel free to call AUCD at 301-588-8252, or check out these great AUCD resources:

Tuesdays with Liz: Disability Policy for All! is a production of AUCD. Thank you to James Willet, Jr. from the Alabama UCEDD for your help with the production of this episode.
