The Developmental Disabilities (DD) Act makes sure that every state has these three organizations: UCEDDs, a DD Council, and a P&A (Protection and Advocacy). The DD Act is a federal law. Every state must follow this law but states can make their own laws to add to it.

Liz visited Alabama to see what these three groups look like in that state. Linda Russo is from the Alabama UCEDD which is at the Civitan International Research Center & Sparks Clinics. James Tucker is from the Alabama Disabilities Advocacies Program which is the P&A in Alabama.

UCEDDs are University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. The Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) supports and promotes 67 UCEDDs, in every state and territory.
