ICI (MA UCEDD/LEND) Researchers Win $600K Grant from Department of Education

August 26, 2019

The ICI has been awarded a 2-year, $600,000 grant from the Department of Education Institute of Education Sciences, National Center for Special Education Research. The grant will fund a study titled "Moving Transition Forward: Exploration of College-based and Conventional Transition Practices for Students with Intellectual Disability and Autism."

This project examines transition practices via secondary analysis of two national datasets: the National Longitudinal Transition Study 2012, and data from the Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students with Disabilities.

"We're delighted to have received funding to carry forward this work," said Dr. Meg Grigal, the principal investigator of the new grant and one of the leaders of ICI's Think College initiative, which aims to enhance postsecondary education options for students with intellectual disability. "Getting this support from IES will enable us to examine how currently provided transition services reflect research-based practices and identify interventions that support employment and college preparation for youth with intellectual disability and autism."
