August 19, 2019

The KUCDD/LEND Community Advisory Panel (CAP) held their annual, face-to-face meeting on July 12th in Salina, KS. Ski Adams, outgoing Chairperson was honored for his years of service as a member for the CAP with a plaque and the announcement of the new sign that will hang at KUCDD acknowledging and honoring CAP Chairpersons over time. Chris Testorff was welcomed in his leadership role, as our new Chairperson.

Karrie Shogren, KUCDD Director, provided an update and led a discussion on the status of KUCDD and, more broadly, the AUCD Network. Emily Worley, a Medical Student at University of Kansas Medical Center shared her research project "Survey of Future Health Care Providers Knowledge and Perspective on Supporting People with Developmental Disabilities" and the efforts undertaken as a result of this project and needs identified last year by the CAP to make a short video for medical students featuring the perspectives of CAP members on interacting with health care providers to educate these future health professionals.

Jessica Schuttler led an engaging conversation on the 4 core functions of KUCDD - Research, Training, Community Service and Technical Assistance focusing on how to communicate about KUCDD across Kansas and where our work should continue to focus. Key themes of importance for the CAP members from the discussion were Legislative Advocacy assistance and Community Partnerships.

We our thankful to have a great CAP that continues to engage us and remind us of the importance of our work!
