Va-LEND Welcomes New FME Coordinator

October 12, 2018

Kathryn "Kate" Flinn is the new Family Mentorship Experience Coordinator (FME) at Va-LEND. Although she became the new FME Coordinator this past July, Kate's connection with Va-LEND began four years ago. According to Kate, in September of 2014 she worked with Va-LEND Trainees on an autism fitness program where she coordinated at the YMCA in Richmond, for teens with Asperger's/High Functioning Autism. Kate has a son who is on the Autism Disability Spectrum (ASD).

"We had 8 teens that came two days a week for 8 weeks. We did pre- and post-fitness testing and all the teens showed improvement in almost all areas tested. It was a big success." In 2015 Kate was accepted into the Va-LEND program as a Long Term Trainee earning a Post Baccalaureate Certificate Degree in Disability Leadership in 2017. Kate holds a BA degree in Communications from Georgia State University and will bring her unique passion, style and knowledgeable experience to this position. "I am super excited, and will continue connecting families and trainees helping them to navigate the supports they need." Welcome Kate!
