Call for Proposals - Pacific Rim International Conference on Disability and Diversity

August 2, 2018

PacRim has been bringing people together for more than 30 years. And PacRim 2019 is no exception. We want individuals with disabilities, their families, service providers, researchers, educators, employers, deep thinkers, change agents, policy makers and entrepreneurs to join us in March 2019. Only by coming together and sharing can we offer individuals with disabilities a better future.

We are in living in a time that is both turbulent and full of promise. In PacRim we intend to focus on the promise side. We have chosen four theme areas: Education; Employment; Accessibility; and Health and Wellbeing.

We will have three issues across these themes: Building Interdisciplinary Teams; Social Emotional Development; and Transitions

We need your help to deliver. We want each PacRim participant to return home with things not only to think about, but to act on. So, we want lots of emphasis on the "how side" in presentations. We want presenters to address transition points, because that where the biggest challenges surface. We want presenters to share what they know and have experienced about self-determination. And, we want presenters to illustrate how data and data sharing make a powerful case for bringing about needed change and competent decision making in any setting, but especially in an interagency context.

Under each of our themes we pose several questions. If you have answers to any of our questions we want to hear from you. You may decide to propose a presentation, a workshop, a free-standing institute, or a keynote address or a keynote speaker. Please send your suggestions to Dr. Patricia Morrissey,  [email protected].

Topic Areas Include:

  • Early Learning and Education Strand
  • Postsecondary Education and Employment Strand
  • Health and Wellbeing Strand
  • Accessibility Strand
  • Social Emotional Development Cross-Strand
  • Transitions Cross-Strand
  • Interdisciplinary Teams Cross-Strand
  • Disability Studies Cross-Strand

We welcome proposals that discuss these issues and more. If you have a proposal that may not fit in to the above targets, we will welcome them as part of our discussion. We welcome proposals in any presentation format. We also welcome presentations in innovative formats including readings, performance art, graphics and roundtables.

Deadline to submit is December 3, 2018. You may submit proposals online at www.pacrim.hawaii.edu/submissions or send your proposals, in the application format, via email to [email protected].
