The Institute on Disability at the University of New Hampshire congratulates Sara Rainer for receiving the Rising Star Award by the New Hampshire Public Health Association at their Annual Meeting on April 11, 2018.

"In the past few years, Sara has worked tirelessly to translate best practices in including people with disabilities with public health initiatives," shares Linda Bimbo, Acting Director of the Institute on Disability, "and we are pleased that her hard work is recognized with this award."

The RISING STAR AWARD honors a public health professional who has been in the field less than five years and has both contributed to public health and has demonstrated significant potential.
Sara's motivation is grounded in the notion of equality - that all people deserve equal rights and opportunities. Sara joined the Institute on Disability during her senior year of undergraduate study. She was hired as a full time employee upon graduating, putting her passion for inclusion and accessibility to work. She has a background in human services and is particularly interested in health promotion, knowledge translation, and health equity for underserved populations. She is currently pursuing a Master's in Public Health from the University of New Hampshire.

The Institute on Disability (IOD) at the University of New Hampshire was established in 1987 to provide a university-based focus for the improvement of knowledge, policies, and practices related to the lives of persons with disabilities and their families. Its mission is to promote full access, equal opportunities, and participation for all persons by strengthening communities and advancing policy and systems change, promising practices, education, and research.

The University of New Hampshire, founded in 1866, is a world-class public research university with the feel of a New England liberal arts college. A land, sea, and space-grant university, UNH is the state's flagship public institution, enrolling 12,200 undergraduate and 2,300 graduate students.
