SC LEND and Greenville Health Systems co-sponsor 12th annual Nurturing Developing Minds conference

March 27, 2018

Over 230 people gathered for the 13th annual Nurturing Developing Minds conference in Greenville SC. These included professionals, family members, self-advocates, and current and past SC LEND trainees. This year's conference theme was Building Resiliency. Opening and closing plenaries were delivered by Andrew Garner, MD, R. Christopher Sheldrick, PhD, and Janice Gruendel, PhD, MEd. Pre-conferences sessions were provided by the Institute for Child Success; these included a screening of the film Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope and a panel discussion about the opioid crisis and ACEs and how they are affecting our children.

Four tracks of workshops were offered, including one designated to Autism/ DD/ LEND. During that track, one of the sessions was the SC LEND family panel; three moms spoke of their experiences within the health care system, education, and life in general with their children. The poster session showcased posters from current and former SC LEND trainees, and SC LEND faculty and former trainees presented at three of the workshops.
