"Making my own snacks" was reported most often by participants as their favorite activity at Mississippi's first Nutrition is for Everyone education workshop. The nutrition workshop was held on January 25, at the Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center in Hattiesburg.  Thirty participants attended, including members of the Institute for Disability Studies' TRIAD AmeriCorps project and Project SEARCH Southern Mississippi as well as members of LIFE of Mississippi, the state's independent living organization.

Nutrition Ambassador LaShaundrea Crook, MS, RDN, LD, led the workshop, opening with stretches and information on MyPlate. She shared tips for eating more fruit and veggies, preparing more meals at home and eating on a budget. "The participants really enjoyed the hands-on activities," said Crook, "Some who had been reluctant to try different fruits and vegetables in the past, tried and enjoyed them during the snack preparation. As a result, the likelihood of them trying more fruits and vegetables, and eating them on a regular basis, is high." NIFE MS Deputy Ambassador and IDS self-advocate, Taylor Carley, assisted with the nutrition education workshop, but he also took time to fix his own snack bag of vegetables with Greek yogurt dip.
