Submissions Requested - Inclusive Approaches to Health for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities

Due November 20th

November 15, 2017

Special Olympics International (SOI), in collaboration with the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) and the American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD), is working to support national level organizations to adopt and promote inclusive approaches to health for persons with intellectual disabilities (ID) with an eye to creating the tipping point for a health system that is inclusive of all people, including people with ID.

One part of this effort is crafting Inclusion Principles, Guidelines, and Checklist documents to provide useful information for organizations on how to foster inclusion of people with ID in health-related activities. In order to do this efficiently and effectively, SOI is looking to identify any existing principles and implementation guidelines and checklists that provide information on how to foster inclusion in health-related activities that might already fit the bill or would provide a good foundation to which ID can be added. For example, an expert panel convened by researchers at Oregon Health & Science University developed guidelines for implementing health promotion programs for persons with disabilities (Drum, et al., 2009).

SOI and its partners are asking you to submit other examples of principles and guidelines, as well as identify supporting resources such as checklists, how-to manuals, websites, and policies that foster inclusion in health-related activities for persons with disabilities, especially intellectual disabilities! We will be compiling and sharing the results later.
