Pavithran (UT UCEDD) Named to United States Commission on Civil Rights Utah Advisory Committee

Sachin Dev Pavithran, Utah Assistive Technology Program director and Center for Persons with Disabilities at Utah State University policy expert was recently appointed to the United States Commission on Civil Rights Utah Advisory Committee. The Committee is composed of citizen volunteers familiar with local and state civil rights issues. The members assist the Commission with its fact-finding, investigative, and information dissemination functions. Pavithran received bachelor's degrees in business information systems and marketing, a master's degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling, and recently completed his Ph.D. disability disciplines from USU.

He holds a federal appointment to the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board (commonly referred to as the U.S. Access Board) and has served as both chair and vice-chair on the Board. In addition, he has served on the Association of Assistive Technology Act Programs National Board, the Utah State Rehabilitation Council, the advisory board for disability policy for Sen. Orrin Hatch, the Research and Development Committee of the National Federation of the Blind, the National Multicultural Council of the Association of University Centers for Disabilities (AUCD), and numerous other state and national committees.

He currently serves on the AUCD Board of Directors and is active in national policy work, as well as in international training focused on fellow educators and professionals and aimed at encouraging independence in students with visual impairments.
