August 21, 2017

Congratulations to Sandy Root-Elledge, Executive Director of the Wyoming Institute for Disabilities. Sandy was honored with the Bright Star Award for a professional by the Wyoming Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities. The Bright Star Award is presented annually and recognizes a professional within the state who has made significant contributions to the field of disabilities.

Sandy was recognized for her steadfast leadership, strong moral direction, inspiring vision, advocacy and volunteerism. One nominator wrote, "It is through great success that leaders are tested, and Sandy has been steadfast in making sure that WIND expands with integrity and fidelity."

Sandy attributes those successes to her role as a mother of two children with disabilities. "As I watch them face the future, I recognize the importance of this work for all families, and I am committed to guiding and supporting an environment where individuals with disabilities can thrive - in Wyoming and beyond."
