May 15, 2017

The Mailman Center was awarded a one year grant in the amount of $223,000 from The Children's Trust. Julieta Hernandez, PhD, LCSW, Clinical Supervisor and Director of Social Work Programs and Douglene Jackson, PhD, OTR/L, LMT, Occupational Therapist & LEND Fieldwork Program Coordinator, will be leading this new project, The Wellness Outreach for Mothers and Babies (WOMB). This program will implement and evaluate an evidence-based intervention to address the social-emotional well-being of infants and mothers in high need Miami-Dade County communities.

The University of Miami's Mailman Center for Child Development and community-based organizations will partner to implement the Mothers and Babies (MB) Intervention. A community-based research project is proposed to support the social-emotional well-being of children and families, as well as increase the capacity of CBOs to address this domain. This pilot project will establish the feasibility and effectiveness of implementing the MB intervention in a group model with perinatal mothers residing in Overtown, Omni, Miami Beach, and Little Havana areas, as well as other high need communities throughout Miami-Dade County.
