Michael Fraser Named Chief Executive Officer of AMCHP

Washington, D.C. - Michael Fraser, Ph.D., has been named the new chief executive officer of the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP), a national organization representing state public health leaders and others working to improve the health and well-being of women, children, youth and families, including those with special health care needs.
The CEO search committee used a multi-faceted interview approach over six months to ensure the right candidate was selected. In her announcement to the membership, President Nan Streeter said, "Mike comes to AMCHP with much enthusiasm, energy and ideas. I am confident that you too will be duly impressed with him."
Since April 2002, Fraser has served the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) as a senior advisor, most recently serving as the association's deputy executive director. Prior to returning to NACCHO, Fraser was a regional program manager/public health advisor with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Infectious Diseases, Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Program. There, he worked with state and local health departments in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic to develop their bioterrorism preparedness and response programs under cooperative agreements with the CDC. Fraser has worked on federal, state and local public health issues in various capacities including prior positions as a senior staff fellow at the Health Resources and Services Administration and bioterrorism program manager for NACCHO. He has presented at numerous professional conferences and meetings, and recent publications include a preparedness planning guidance for local public health agencies, and peer-reviewed articles for Public Health Reports, the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice and Contemporary Sociology. Fraser earned his Doctorate in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and is on the adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland's University College.
