Dr. Matthew Wappett Named New Director at CPD (UT UCEDD)

January 23, 2017

The Center for Persons with Disabilities at Utah State University welcomes Dr. Mathew Wappett as their new director on January 25.

Wappett, an Alaskan native, received his doctorate in special education from the University of Utah. He began his career in education as a high school English teacher before climbing the collegiate ladder. Wappett's background in disability includes a stint as an associate director of the Center on Disabilities and Human Development at the University of Idaho. He also founded and directed the interdisciplinary studies program there. Currently he co-directs the Confucius Institute at the U of I, which is a Chinese government program that aims to teach Americans about Chinese language and culture, an opportunity that came partly because he is fluent in Chinese. But while he has accomplished a lot at that program, he misses disability and looks forward to returning to it.
