For Your Leadership and Service and Your Dedication to People with Disabilities and Their Families

“Bob joined the University of Iowa in 1979. At a time when institutionalization of people with disabilities was more commonly the norm, Bob’s passion and leadership around promoting and advocating for the civil rights of people with disabilities in Iowa were quickly recognized. It is in this regard that Bob has continued to push the envelope over the past 37 years. Bob’s leadership and commitment to the vision of ‘a life in the community for everyone’ has been at the forefront of the work of the Iowa UCEDD, and his impact is felt across the state. However, Bob’s contributions extend far beyond the borders of Iowa. He has played a significant leadership role within AUCD including serving as Board President in 2002 and as Co-Chair for AUCD’s Public Policy Committee since 2005. In addition, he has served on the faculty of the National Leadership Institute on Developmental Disabilities since 2012. Finally, as he approaches retirement, Bob is working tirelessly to ensure a seamless transition, elevating the next generation of leaders and placing the role of mentor as his top priority. ”
