Trinity Centre for People with Intellectual Disabilities

Newly Accredited Higher Education Certificate in Arts, Science and Inclusive Applied Practice

September 29, 2016

The Trinity Centre for People with Intellectual Disabilities (TCPID) is delighted to announce that our new 2 year certificate course in Arts, Science and Inclusive Applied Practice has recently been accredited by the University Council of Trinity College Dublin. The TCPID, in the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin aims to promote true inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities and encourage students to realize their full potential through higher education. The newly accredited programs means that students will now, for the first time, receive a formal qualification upon graduation from university.

The new programme offers students a high academic standard of learning and supports students with intellectual disabilities to develop a broad range of skills across a comprehensive curriculum, including preparing graduates to work in diverse employment settings. The newly accredited programme is rooted in evidence-based research and aims to provide students with the independent living skills needed to become full participants in Irish society.

Upon graduating, students with intellectual disabilities will be equal to their fellow Trinity College graduates in having a formal recognised qualification. This formal qualification will allow students with intellectual disabilities to compete for jobs and further education on an equal level with other graduates.

The TCPID Business Partners play a pivotal role in the Centre. These companies provide significant developmental opportunities for students, including mentoring and work-placements, giving them the confidence, knowledge and skills they need for employment and independent living when they graduate.
